This handsome Art Deco-style tower was erected in 1929 as a hotel and converted to cooperative apartments in 1980. The 459 unit building has a canopied entrance, a four-story limestone entrance surround, a doorman, a concierge, and a health club. At 32 stories high, it is the tallest building in Fred F. French’s Tudor City complex which anchors the east end of 42nd Street. Famous neighboring landmarks include the Ford Foundation Building, which was innovative for its huge, windowed atrium, the United Nations complex at the east end of the block, and the former Daily News and Chrysler Buildings to the west.
